Porter Bennett

Co-Founder & Chairman

For over three decades Porter Bennett has pioneered innovative analytical approaches to understanding the natural gas, crude oil and water markets. As Co-Founder of B3 Insight, a subsidiary of Ponderosa Advisors, LLC, he leads all strategic company initiatives, delivering data-driven water analytics to the energy and environment sectors. Prior to B3, Porter founded BENTEK Energy in 1985, served as CEO, and led the company’s development until 2011 when it was acquired by Platts, a division of McGraw Hill Financial.

Porter holds an M.S. degree in Mineral Economics from the Colorado School of Mines, an M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University, and a B.A. in History from Lewis & Clark College.

Kelly Bennett

Co-Founder & CEO

Kelly Bennett has spent his career making obscure natural resource and commodity data usable for high-value decision making. Prior to B3 Insight, he built the global energy desk at BENTEK Energy (Platts) and co-founded Ponderosa Energy, an oil and gas market analytics company acquired by Enverus in 2016. Kelly is a board member of the Western Landowners Alliance, a nonprofit that advances policies and practices that sustain working lands, connected landscapes, and native species and is an active volunteer with Colorado Uplift, one of Denver’s largest and oldest nonprofit programs to engage in long-term, life-changing relationships with urban youth. Additionally, he is a member of the Advisory Board for the Internet of Water at Duke University's Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions and a key contributor to the Aspen Institute Dialogue Series on Water Data.

Kelly holds a B.S. in Diplomacy and World Affairs from Occidental College.

David Hicks

President

David's rich career in energy spans operations, business, and technology development with specific experience within upstream exploration; he has been intensely involved in key topics within the energy transition field. He is an accomplished leader with over 25 years of progressive global experience in accelerated growth strategies, successful business development, strategic alliance management, and pioneering complex technical design development. Prior to joining B3, he held numerous senior management positions within the oil and gas industry including Senior Vice President and Partner of IHS Markit Ltd. where he led the global upstream business; President of EMGS Western Hemisphere Inc.; Senior Vice President and CTO of TGS Inc.; and Senior Vice President of Halliburton/Landmark.

David began his career as an exploration geologist with ExxonMobil and holds degrees in Geological Sciences from the University of Southern California (M.S.) and the Colorado College (B.A).

Samantha Fox

Senior Product and Data Analyst

With over 15 years of experience building databases in the energy sector, Samantha combines primary analysis of water-related data with research into their legal and regulatory administration. Prior to B3 Insight, Samantha was a natural gas and power analyst at BENTEK Energy where she played an integral role in developing a multidimensional data and analysis solution for various energy sectors including commodities prices, international gas markets, and steel.

Samantha holds a B.S. in Engineering Physics from the Colorado School of Mines.

My personal mantra is "Can't never could do nothin'!" (my grandpa's favorite saying!).

Rob Chrisman

Director of Business Development

Based in Houston, TX, Rob Chrisman built an impressive career and broad knowledge base in the oil and gas industry, in both the E&P and service sectors, developing deep technical skills and broad practical field experience. His experience includes engineering for Halliburton, Fidelity Exploration, Whiting Petroleum, and engineering and business development focused on produced water gathering projects for Gravity Oilfield Services.

Rob holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University.

BRIAN MAXSON

Account Executive
With nearly a decade in the Oil and Gas industry, Brian has ranged in his exciting career from laying seismic dynamite in Texas with PGS, to leading and managing some of the industry’s top Upstream Data and Software companies’ sales teams with TGS and CGG. He then had the opportunity to round out his Oil and Gas experience in the world of Midstream, Downstream and Chemicals at IHS. With the experience in each sector, it was time to explore the new energy challenge of Smart Water Management.

Brian holds a B.S. in Business Management from The University of Houston.

Nancy Zalutsky

Water Rights Specialist and Certified Paralegal

With over 20 years of experience in water rights, Nancy focuses on land and water research and analysis for issues important to B3 Insight users. Previously, she worked in legal and consulting firms specializing in land and water matters and rights. She is a member of the Women's Leadership Network, an organization focused on investing, inspiring, and supporting lifelong learning sector’s current and future women leaders, advancing their effectiveness and status.

Nancy holds a B.S. in Paralegal Studies and has been a NALA Certified Paralegal since 1995.

Logan Reed

Software Engineer

Logan is responsible for managing B3's internal applications ecosystem, which consists of over a dozen in-house data management software applications. Logan has a high degree of technical knowledge and passion to work collaboratively to deliver innovative solutions for our customers.


Prior to B3 Insight, Logan was a Software Developer Intern at Maxar Technologies (formerly DigitalGlobe) focusing on automating imagery validation software.


Logan holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Colorado State University with a concentration in Human-Centered Computing.

Lori Medina

Lead Data Specialist

Lori is the Lead Data Specialist focused on analyzing, editing and producing clean data. She has extensive experience in Social and Human Services including time with Colorado's Jefferson County Human Services as a Program Specialist and Case Manager working with families and children.

Lori holds a B.S. in Applied Science and Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health and Counseling from Metropolitan State University. She is also certified in Computer Information Systems.

My motto these days seems to be "No pain, No gain".

Jamie Stone

Lead Software Engineer

As the Lead Software Engineer, Jamie is responsible for full stack software development. He built B3 Insight’s collection system from the ground up, led the company’s efforts in maintaining the automated collection system and data warehouse and currently maintains all client facing products and development.

Jamie is continually venturing into uncharted territory with innovative solutions for our customers. Prior to B3, Jamie was a Software Data Engineer at BENTEK Energy and S&P Global.

Hands down, my favorite reason to be OOO is to run the yard with my herd of dogs.

Lindsey Sherry

Office Manager

Lindsey manages the company’s office operations and procedures, including accounting and human resources support. She keeps the office running smoothly and supports the team on a variety of projects. Before joining B3 Insight, Lindsey worked in early childhood education.

Lindsey holds a BA in Elementary Education from University of Northern Colorado.

Patrick Patton

Commercial Product Manager

Pat has over 10 years with experience in engineering, water management, geoscience, and operations and environmental disciplines. His previous work involved analyzing investment value, risk and upside with an emphasis on M&A evaluations, SWD permitting, strategic planning, business intelligence and seismic risk analysis. Prior to joining B3, Pat was the business analyst and geologist at Pilot Water Solutions. His experience includes time at Sable Bay Energy and Anadarko Petroleum, working multiple onshore US basins including Appalachia, San Juan, Piceance, Paradox, Uinta, Greater Green River, Powder River, DJ and the Permian.

Pat holds an MS in Environmental and Water Engineering from Colorado School of Mines and a BA in Geology from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Dalton Gomez

Data Scientist
As a Data Scientist at B3 Insight, Dalton is responsible for the development of derived datasets and supporting the commercialization of products built on those derivatives. This role includes exploratory data analysis, data QA/QC, and the training, testing and deployment of statistical and machine learning models. Prior to B3 Insight, Dalton worked and studied at Montana State University, researching optimization algorithms and AI approaches for transportation network design, specifically around carbon capture and storage infrastructure. Before moving to Montana, Dalton has been a high school science teacher and water quality chemist in Vermont.

Dalton holds a MS in Computer Science from Montana State University and a BS in Environmental Science from Northern Vermont University.
